I was sitting at my desk making a handmade card to send to a friend who is having emotional and health issues and needed a word of encouragement. I love making cards. I love encouraging people. I love helping others discover they have more inside themselves than they think they do. And, while making the card I started feeling very grateful. Of course, I am grateful for a zillion things in my life, but I became aware of the little things around my art studio desk that most of the time I just take for granted.
I started to make a list of the things I was surrounded by:
- double-sided tape
- sharp scissors
- paint pens
- Dr. Ph Martin’s Bleed Proof White (love it!)
- lots of scrapbook paper in beautiful patterns
- glue dots in different sizes
- Staedtler Lumocolor permanent pens
- Veritas metallic and glitter pens
- parchment paper
- a paper cutter
Ok…I’ll stop. Obviously, I have a lot of “stuff” around me. But all that “stuff” makes me happy. I can create a lot of beautiful cards with all that “stuff” to cheer up someone in distress, bring a smile to someone’s face who is dealing with illness or surgery, let someone know I am thinking of them on their birthday or anniversary, or just a “thinking of you” for no reason at all. And all that makes my heart happy.
Creativity can wear so many hats. I’m grateful for that. I love to point out to others who say they aren’t at all creative that they really are…they just don’t recognize it. Whether it’s the way they make a fashion statement, how they organize a party, prepare a gourmet dinner, or piece together a simple card, it’s all creativity
I found myself wondering what others have around their art studio or workspace that makes them feel grateful. I’d love to hear from you. Share your favorite things in the comments below!
