As a "writing doula," I provide both emotional encouragement and professional guidance throughout your creative birthing process. Drawing from years of teaching writing workshops, I bring insights into what publishers seek while honoring the integrity of your vision.

I'm honored to have my daughter Ashley and my “daughter-in-love” Ilea working alongside me to ensure a holistic ecosystem for developing your book, each bringing uniquely valuable insights and skills to the process.

    I bring a lifelong passion for reading and a meticulous eye for detail to manuscript editing. Raised by developmental editor Joanne Miller, I’ve been immersed in the world of books and proper grammar since childhood. I specialize in the final polish that transforms good writing into great writing—catching typos, ensuring grammatical accuracy, and maintaining consistency throughout your manuscript.

    With my natural "editor's eye" honed through decades of voracious reading, I provide the careful attention your work deserves in its final stages. I understand that authors need an editor who respects their voice while ensuring their message comes through clearly and professionally.

    I live in Sarasota, Florida, with my husband of over 20 years, three teen daughters, my mother (and editing mentor), and a menagerie of beloved pets and foster animals.

    I’m Ilea, mama to 3 beautiful little humans, writer, intuitive editor, herbalist and curator of sacred wisdom.

    As an intuitive writing coach and developmental editor, it is an honor to hold space for writers  to discover their own innate wisdom and help to draw the magic out of their stories. Through traveling, the study of sacred wisdom and writing, I am continually entranced by the breadth of the human soul. I bring this curiosity to each client’s written creation to carefully unearth the potency of their words.

    My intention is to guide people toward what most resonates within so they can embody the power and intuition of their most authentic self. When a writer can access this part of themselves, their words become medicinal as they share this authenticity with others.

Our Process

Beginning Our Journey

Our collaboration starts with a conversation—via phone, Zoom, or FaceTime—where we explore your vision and determine our compatibility. This initial meeting allows me to understand your project's heart and your aspirations for it. You'll complete a brief online form to clarify timelines and expectations, creating a foundation for our work together.

Development & Refinement

Once we've agreed to collaborate, we'll discuss the appropriate investment for your project and establish a thoughtful timeline. My editing process flows through several phases:

  1. Developmental Guidance - Strengthening your manuscript's structure, flow, and narrative elements

  2. Content Enhancement - Refining your ideas while preserving your authentic voice

  3. Technical Editing - Polishing grammar, syntax, and consistency

  4. Final Refinement - Adding what one client beautifully described as "music to my words"

Throughout our work together, we offer regular check-ins and feedback sessions. We commitment extends beyond technical corrections—we serve as your advocate, celebrating your strengths while gently illuminating opportunities for growth.

Working with us differs from conventional editing services. We don't simply correct your manuscript; we help you discover its fullest potential. Our clients often share that our collaboration helped them uncover depths in their writing they hadn't known existed.

Investment

We have been coaching writers, editing, proofreading, and endorsing books for decades. I have authored Creating a Haven of Peace, Be Your Finest Art, and five children’s books. I have an extensive background in blogging and newsletters, have been a guest on many podcasts, and orchestrated many writers’ workshops. Our goal is to help others see they have more inside them than they think they do. We will help you create a manuscript of which you can be proud.  

Editorial Coaching & Assessment     

$175/hour

Line Editing/Proofreading    

$ .04 to .06 per word

(or project fee to be negotiated)  

Primarily checking for confusing structural issues, grammar and spelling mistakes, and glaring inconsistencies.

Developmental Editing   

$.06 to .08 per word

(or project fee to be negotiated) 

Includes reading the entire manuscript, looking at structure, form, and plot. Helping to develop characters, scenes, dialogue, and transitions, making sure there are no inconsistencies, repetition, and confusion. Includes proofreading, line editing, and structural changes. Fee is based on the complexity of the author’s requirements.

Children’s Book Editing     

Under 2000 words  =  $775 

 3000+ words = $850+ 

This includes line editing, examining structure, appropriateness, and message for the intended age range, as well as author information and a back cover if desired.
